North Gwinnett Co-Op

In Matthew 25:35–40, Jesus talks about the importance of caring for “the least of these.” When we care for our brothers and sisters, we show our love for him as well. These verses are the heartbeat of the North Gwinnett Co-Op’s ministry. The Co-Op helps struggling families with food, financial assistance, and spiritual support when they find themselves in the midst of job loss, health difficulties, or crisis.

Over the last several years, the Co-Op has seen a significant increase in food needs, from 170,000 pounds of food given away in 2019 to more than 400,000 pounds this past year. The Co-Op has not historically had the money to purchase food for the pantry when it’s low, but because of your generosity through last year’s Be Rich campaign, they were able to provide more food for those in need. You helped cover the cost of North Gwinnett Co-Op’s operating expenses, which include the food pantry, thrift store, and assistance with housing, utilities, and medication.

You also helped support their new senior program, SomeBuddy. SomeBuddy pairs a senior with a buddy who delivers groceries once a month and checks on them a second time that month. Some of these seniors just need someone to talk to and connect with.

From seniors to families affected by death or housefires to those who simply need an extra meal, you’ve helped North Gwinnett Co-Op minister to the people in our community in so many ways. “We tell people we’re more than a food bank,” Executive Director Kim Phillips said.
